The Sphere Handbook is based in the belief that affected communities have the right to dignity and assistance, and that all steps should be taken to alleviate human suffering. By providing technical guidance in the four sectors of WASH, food security and nutrition, shelter and settlement, and health, Sphere establishes standard guidelines for humanitarian response in order to ensure quality, efficacy and accountability.

This training offers an introduction to the Sphere Handbook with the foundational principles of humanitarian aid-- the Humanitarian Charter, the Core Humanitarian Standards and the Protection Principles. The course will equip students with:

• A comprehensive foundation of the Sphere Handbook technical standards and their practical application in humanitarian situations.
• A solid understanding of the Humanitarian Charter as the cornerstone of the Sphere Handbook.
• Knowledge about the Core Humanitarian Standards and the Protection Principles.

This training is best suited for people beginning their careers in humanitarian aid, or humanitarian professionals with little to no knowledge of Sphere.

This course will take place in Bochum, Germany, and the language of instruction is German. The cost to participate is 450,00 € which includes catering. Members of ADH organizations can apply for fee reimbursement.
